Playback: "Still (Country Version)" (Tamia)

I posted Tamia's updated rendition of "Still"a few months ago, but it seems as though not a lot of people took notice, so I wanted to post it again! To help build buzz for her recently released LP "Beautiful Surprise," Tamia has released an updated rendition of her joint "Still," which was a song she originally recorded with Jermaine Dupri and released on her album 2004 album "More." Tamia and Claude Kelly teamed up for this rerecord which found the famed singer recording it in roughly three takes with the assistance of some Nashville country musicians. Instead of piecing her takes together, Tamia performed "Still" with the musicians simultaneously and took the best take. Take a listen below to "Still (Country Version)," which will appear on "Beautiful Surprise" and support this sistah!

Cut: "Beautiful" (Tweet)

Back in 2002, Tweet released her debut album "Southern Hummingbird" via The Goldmind Inc. and Elektra Records.  While "Southern Hummingbird" is best known for Tweets' joints "Oops (Oh My)" and "Call Me,"there are a few cuts off the album that are some solid joints to have in one's collection. With that said, I offer up her smooth joint "Beautiful" as one of these such joints. Take a listen below to "Beautiful" and Enjoy!

Second Listen: "Teach Me Tonight" (Dinah Washington)

Back in 1954, Dinah Washington recorded and released her rendition of the Gene De Paul and Sammy Cahn standard "Teach Me Tonight." In my opinion, Dinah created the definitive version of the classic standard, which would go onto peak at #4 on the Rhythm & Blues Records charts. Take a first or second listen below to her sublime recording of "Teach Me Tonight," and Enjoy!

Amazing Cover: "Ain't No Way" (Kenny Lattimore)

On Kenny Lattimore's 2008 "Timeless" album, the crooner covered the Aretha Franklin classic "Ain't No Way." While most vocalist shouldn't attempt to cover songs done by one the Queen of Soul, Lattimore is the exception to this and his smooth tenor takes on the song like a pro. Take a listen below to his amazing cover of "Ain't No Way," and Enjoy!

Live Audio: "Heaven" (Ed Sheeran)

Emeli and Ed are two of my favorite UK exports of the moment, and hopefully 2013 will see more of them in the States. With that said, take a listen below to Ed Sheeran's live cover of "Heaven" and Enjoy!

New Video: "Take Him Out" (Mya)

Mya released a video for her Carib flavored joint "Take Him Out" yesterday and had the blogs abuzz as it had been a long minute since we had seen a visual from Mya, let alone music as her 2011 album  K.I.S.S. was not commercially released here in the States. Featuring dancehall star Spice, the visual for "Take Him Out" shows that Mya still got it in all the right ways and hopefully a major US label can get in-line with her and stage a "comeback" of sorts. Either way you feel, peep the video below for "Take Him Out" and Enjoy!

Remix: "Glitter and Gold (Tom Farrago Remix)" (Rebecca Ferguson)

With that said, take a listen to "Glitter and Gold (Tom Farrago Remix) below and Enjoy!

Live Video of the Day: "Why Would You Stay" (Kem)

One of my favorite joint from Kem's latest album "Intimacy: Album III," was the lead off single "Why Would You Stay" and below you will find a sublime performance of this smooth ballad by Kem as he crooned it out during the 2010 Budweiser Fest." Back in 2010 Jazmine Sullivan released her sophomore album "Love Me Back" and while the disc didn't receive the same commercial success as her debut album, it is just as good, if not better then its predecessor. After listening to Gary Clark Jr.'s "Blak and Blu" LP this weekend, my favorite cut from his album has to be the last "bonus" track on the deluxe version entitled "Soul." The smooth instrumentation and vocals really capture a mellow mood that warrants a listen from music fans and casual listeners who might've just listened to the standard edition. Therefore, take a listen below to my favorite cut from the album "Soul" and Enjoy!

Live Audio: "The Ghetto" (Donny Hathaway)

Ain't nothing like a talented vocalist unplugged and crooning away on a live album in my opinion and Donny Hathaway is one of the greatest to ever release a live album. While the mainstream vocal talent in the industry appears to lack a certain vocality that legends such as Hathaway possessed, it's refreshing to revisit some of his live audio work and his take on "The Ghetto," which is lifted from his 1972 live album is no exception. With that said, take a listen to his sublime live take on "The Ghetto" below and Enjoy!

Amazing Cover: "The Wayfaring Stranger" (Ed Sheeran)

Before Ed Sheeran was a UK superstar and set to open for Taylor Swift's forthcoming North American tour in 2013, he was just an artist-on-the-rise performing acoustic renditions of his original songs and covers. With that said, more than a year ago, Ed offered up a sublime cover of this British spiritual/folk song entitled "The Wayfaring Stranger." UK's singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran really lets into this classic and makes it his own and you can watch him performing it  below and Enjoy!

Cut: "Tell Him" (Lauryn Hill)

Lauryn Hill's "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" stands as one of the greatest albums of all time hands down and is truly one of those once every generation type of records. With that said, there are so many cuts from Hill's solo debut album, and if you've worn out the record like I have, then you know that the final "bonus track" from "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" can vary. While my copy has Hill's powerful "Tell Him" as the final cut other renditions of the critically acclaimed LP have "Sweetest Thing" as the ending note. Either way your copy of "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" ended up, "Tell Him" is one of the numerous standout tracks from Hill's sublime debut LP that warrants a deeper listen. Listen below and Enjoy!

Playback: "Numb" (Gary Clark Jr.)

Gary Clark Jr.'s major label debut album "Blak and Blu" is one of the best albums of the year in my opinion and showcases off both his strong vocals and guitar skills. With that said, the second single lifted from "Blak and Blu" is the thumping "Numb," which while it is not receiving a lot of airplay is such a solid joint. With that said, take a playback below to "Numb" and go out and support this brotha and his latest LP!

With that said, Ms. Riley recently took part at the Big Brothers Big Sisters Of Greater Los Angeles 2012 Rising Stars Gala to perform a stirring rendition of the Mariah Carey classic "Hero." With that said, peep her sublime performance below of "Hero" and Enjoy!

Amazing Cover: "Sailing" (Avant)

Back in 1980, Christopher Cross released his #1 hit "Sailing," which was a smooth sensual and silky ballad. Avant then rerecorded "Sailing," back in 2008 for his self-titled album "Avant" and later released it as a single. With that said, take a listen below to Avant's cover and Enjoy!

Live Audio: "The Way He Makes Me Feel" (Jennifer Holliday)

Back in 1984 Jennifer Holliday took to the 1984 Oscar telecast to perform a stirring rendition of the Oscar nominated ballad "The Way He Makes Me Feel". Johnnie Taylor who was also dubbed "The Philosopher of Soul," when he joined Stax Records back in 1966 released his biggest hit with the label back in 1968 with the release of "Who's Making Love." Eventually peaking at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Hot Black Singles, s"Who's Making Love," would go on to earn Taylor a nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance from the Grammy Awards and would becoming his best selling single to date before the release of his hit "Disco Lady," roughly a decade latter. Take a first or second listen below to "Who's Making Love" and Enjoy!
